This system allows you to perfectly tailor your team to your liking.

Pros and cons of DRAGON QUEST VIII app for iPhone and iPad
DRAGON QUEST VIII app good for
Portrait mode isnt as bad as it seems. This is the Japanese version of the game that did not have voice overs but the text is in English.
That being said its a great RPG that doesnt baby you in the slightest. Highly enjoyable and once you learn how to use the camera in sync with character movement Im actually preferring the portrait mode.
I initially held off in expectation of the 3DS version but Im glad I didnt wait.
…on iOS. That’s it.
On the downside: controls a little clumsy and no voice overs. But hey, it’s on iOS.
I really like that game but please add the German translation. Thank you
Since I never had the opportunity to play dragon quest on playstation, I can only say good things about this game (the same goes for all dragon quest games). Right now Im enjoying this game on iPhone 5 and so far I had no troubles or noticed any lags. Its a bit unusual playing vertically but I think its refreshing. I changed the control pad to the smaller one though. Its more accurate this way.
The story seems interesting right from the start and I enjoy the funny conversations between the characters, although like always the hero is mute. Why, oh why.
By the way, its not mentioned in the description, but you can manually synchronize save data via iCloud.
Awesome Port. Been waiting a long time to play this game again.
Dragon quest 8 on ios is a must have game for rpg fans. Huge world to explore with awesome characters and great story. Only problems with this version is the lower frame rate and no voice acting compared to the original release on ps2. Still very few rpgs on iPhone comes close to the quality of this game.
Some bad moments
I love this game and I used to play it a lot on PS2. Well, this game looks really beautiful and very well adapted to play on a iPhone 5/5S but I bought it to play on a iPad and its terrible. Its just a big version of the iPhone version. I was hopping for landscape and there is only portrait. The buttons are really big and far from the range of the fingers. There are black margins on the sides of the screen. I hope Square-Enix will fix this in the future. Another complain is that the game is very expensive, Square-Enix doesnt know how to put right prices in their mobile games. I just bought to play again and I really love the DQ series....
Why is only English available with this app? No German nor Japanese? I do wish Square Enix will update for multi language soon. At least you must state which languages are available!! Then many people can save money and time for downloading this game...
Thank you Square Enix!! But please improve the performance! It is even laggy on the IPad Air. Also the menus look pretty ugly compared to the original ones. Last bot not least I miss the voices, which were great on the PS2.
THE CONTROLS ARE TERRIBLE....
YOU CANT TURN THE GAME LONG WAYS MAKING IT VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TO BE CONTROLLED.
BE READY FOR AKWARDNESS MAKING HATE WHAT WAS ONCE AN AWESOME GAME...
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
If they change the layout and control scheme to conventional like most games. Id give it 0 stars if possible. Way to go SE it onc was fun.
I cannot believe how awful the control system is. You cant play landscape which just makes playing on my ipad feel ridiculous and their whole gimmick of playing one hand on the phone is bad too! I was really sceptical and curious why the screen shots were only in portrait mode and now I know why. Id love to give this a higher rating but in just paid $20 for a game I cannot comfortably play... I want my money back if you guys dont fix it!
One of my favorite RPGs and PS2 ports but please fix the crashing. Its frustrating to battle a boss more than once or to be interrupted when exploring larger dungeons or when searching for treasure in larger towns.
